Washington DC Art Museum Engagement Session

Editorial & Romantic Art Museum Engagement Session in Washington DC

The National Gallery of Art

One of the wonderful things about having your engagement session in Washington DC is getting to choose from all the beautiful places with stunning architecture and iconic history as a backdrop for your engagement session. It goes as no surprise that the National Gallery of Art tops the list of favorites for where I take my couples. If you read from my blogpost on Sally and Mohammad’s engagement session here, I dive into more details, gushing about how great this museum is. Because of how large this art museum is, relative to the other ones in Washington DC, it’s easy to make every engagement session here unique to the next one.

For example, one of my recent favorite discoveries is the Marie Antoinette room that features some artwork coming from Paris. The walls of the exhibit is a piece of work itself. Because it’s a tucked away corner of the art museum, there are barely any visitors wandering by, making it a secluded and interruption-free space to get some gorgeous pictures in. The faux candlelit space just also adds to the moody ambience to the room, making it one of my new go-to’s when photographing my engagement couples!

About the couple

Christie and Jordy first found me from looking up art museum engagement sessions on Google! They actually came all the way from sunny California to have their engagement photos taken by me (which is an incredible honor). They had said that so many locations in California that gave the same art museum vibe they were looking for were obscenely expensive to shoot at, or just didn’t allow for photos overall, so they were searching high and low for another place that called out to them – lo and behold, the National Gallery of Art was free and had the stunning backdrops they dreamed of.

These two had such wonderful chemistry throughout the photos while also wanting to sprinkle in some editorial poses that I am all about. I love shooting a variety of different types of portraits, ranging from goofy to candid to editorial – I just love them all. I absolutely fell in love with the couple and their contagious energy that I was over the moon when they asked me to be their wedding photographer as well. Thank you Christie and Jordy for being the bestest couple! Can’t wait to photograph their destination wedding later in Colorado this year!
