Monica and Terrill’s wedding day was definitely one for the books.

For a summer wedding in the DMV area, the heat was definitely unforgettable, but so were the super cool idea of giving all the guests a fan to use throughout the day! We started off the day in a very relaxed manner, back at the hotel where Monica got ready with her girls. I loved that she said she was pretty much relinquishing all control for the day so that she wouldn’t be anxious about anything and just live in the moment throughout the wedding – which I think is an awesome mindset to have from the get-go. I was given a gorgeous set of flat-lay details to photographer – their blush pink vow books, a terracotta orange invitation suite, and nude velvet pink heels.

A really unique touch I loved was Monica’s veil, which had the words “On Arthur Roy” embroidered along the edges. I asked her what the significance of that was, and she told me that it was something her and Terrill would say to each other when they’re holding a promise with each other… Me: tears ;-;

As their wedding day progressed, the guests were greeted with a super talented saxophonist (@khaydenarts) who I highly recommend hiring to play for your ceremony precessional and recessional. The officiant, who was a long term church colleague of the couple talked about how nothing was more beautiful than black love, and you could just feel how intimate and collective everyone was. Monica and Terrill jumped the broom to close off the ceremony and celebrated happily into cocktail hour. Because their doggies couldn’t make it to the wedding, the couple made sure to still make them a part of their special day by adding them into a customized “His & Her favorite cocktails” sign. I squealed when I saw them use their engagement photos I photographed for them almost a year ago for their album cover, since their guest book was signing a record player – so cool! Congratulations again, Monica + Terrill!
